JUNE 8 • Turmeric Dyeing on Silk
In this class we'll learn how to dye "Golden Shibori" on silk using curcumin, or common Turmeric.

Turmeric is considered a fugitive dye and does not require any pre-treatment or mordanting, making it a perfect instruction to the world of natural dye materials.

We'll experiment with different phs using common food items to achieve different ranges of yellow, mustard and orange hues before using Japanese resist dyeing to create a wearable accessory that feels like sunshine on rich, silk charmeuse that will age over time and wear from a rich gold to a warm buttery yellow as the season turns from summer to fall.

Each student with have practice pieces to work on before dyeing the 22"x22" piece of silk.
