FEBRUARY 2 + 23 • Dyeing to Knit - Speedy Custom Cowl

Sure, dyeing is fun, but then what do you do with it? Ever wanted to create something with the perfect yarn but didn't care for the colors you could choose off the shelf? Create your own Cowl from start to finish - including the color! In this Dye to Knit collaborative, students will learn how to use acid dyes and color theory to create color, and once it’s just right learn how to use it to dye their own skein of yarn! Knowing how to create your own colored yarn is a game changer. The first session will cover the basics of working with dyeing protein fibers using dharma acid dyes and the differences in different fabrics and fibers. Find the perfect color with hands on help in mixing, testing and ph balancing under instruction from dyer and fiber artist Tami Fuller from Blubird Studio. You will turn a lovely a lovely big 98 yard ball of Wool and the Gang Crazy Sexy Wool from Frost White to your own unique one of a kind color.

Then, come back on February 23rd with your yarn to see the ladies of The Flock. The knitting part of this class will be the "Pretty Speedy Cowl" by Purl Soho. After you have had the fun of dying your own yarn, you will now be able to knit up a quick cowl to take home or give as a gift!

This cowl gives you three different ribbing choices...a very easy 2x4 rib, a slightly more challenging spiral rib, and the open mock cable rib. None are more than an advanced beginner can handle, and all charming in their big stitch boldness!

Depending on which ribbing you choose, in this class you will learn different stitches, such as; slip stitch, pass slipped stitch over, yarn over, and a right twist. If you are a beginner knitter, please do not hesitate to join this class, this cowl is a great way to learn the basics of knitting. From knitting to purling, to casting on, casting off and also knitting in the round. We use large needles and with the bulky weight of the yarn it's a quick knit and instant gratification!
