Join together in communal creation as we deepen our plant dye technique skill set. Hapazome is a printing modality using natural materials which allows you to create patterns and color quickly with the use of a mallet. We will create two pieces one with the hapazome technique and another with bundle dyeing. For those who have attended previous bundle dye classes, we will be learning new folding forms for our fibers.
Note - Your item may cure for days or weeks to deepen and mature the color. It is experimental and should be enjoyed as such. Take your pieces home to cure by leaving them in a cool dry space out of direct sunlight. Or unfold outside as soon as you desire to see what you and the plants have co-created. Once you remove plant material from fiber hand wash in cool water with a ph neutral soap, hang dry out of direct sunlight. Botanically dyed pieces shift with time and the elements, creating a living piece of art. You may notice color changes or fading over time depending on the materials chosen.
Ages: 16 years and up - beginner to intermediate
Materials: Botanical dye stuffs including food scraps, herbs and floral waste will be provided along with two pre-treated pieces of linen. Students are welcome to bring their own natural fiber garment to experiment with as well.
